The Fairfax Bridge is a truss bridge over the Missouri River that handles southbound U.S. Route 69 from Platte County, Missouri to Wyandotte County, Kansas. The Platte Purchase Bridge is a truss bridge that carries northbound traffic of the same highway over the Missouri River from Kansas City, Kansas to Riverside, Missouri. The former bridge is directly to the west of the latter.
Fairfax Assembly is a General Motors automobile factory. It was opened in 1987 again and currently produces the Chevrolet Malibu. As of July 2006[update], the local Kansas City council is attempting to entice GM to produce a new mid-size vehicle here with $146,000,000 in bonds.
Fairfax Airport was an airport from 1921 until it closed in 1985 that is most famously associated with the construction of most of the B-25 Mitchell bombers. The airport was directly across the Missouri River from Kansas City Downtown Airport and served as an air strip for plane manufacturers and repairs in the city's Fairfax district, as well as postal delivery. Passenger service in the area was handled by its Missouri sister (although Braniff briefly used it). Its IATA designation was KCK.
